Land use, hydrological function and economic valuation
2005Land use change that accompanies economic development and population growth is intended to raise the economic productivity of land. An inevitable by product of this process is the alteration of natural vegetation and downstream hydrological function.

Land-use choices: balancing human needs and ecosystem function
Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, 2004Conversion of land to grow crops, raise animals, obtain timber, and build cities is one of the foundations of human civilization. While land use provides these essential ecosystem goods, it alters a range of other ecosystem functions, such as the provisioning of freshwater, regulation of climate and biogeochemical cycles, and maintenance of soil ...

Landscape Function Transformations with Relation to Land-Use Changes
2009Land-use changes at different scales (from global to local) are a key topic in a number of scientific branches, such as geography, sociology, economy, landscape ecology, and others (Himiyama, 2002; Leppers, 2002; Naveh, 1991; Worster, 1985; žigrai, 1996).

Nestedness in playa odonates as a function of area and surrounding land-use
Wetlands, 2008(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) As degradation of wetlands continues to occur as a result of human activities, it is important to identify aquatic and amphibious species' extinction risks and the relative hospitalities of sites to support intact biotic communities; one such technique involves comparing the nestedness of assemblages ...

wheat yield functions for analysis of land use change in china
Environmental Modeling & Assessment, 1998CERES-Wheat, a dynamic process crop growth model, is specified and validated for eight sites in the major wheat-growing regions of China. Crop model results are then used to test the Mitscherlich-Baule and the quadratic functional forms for yield response to nitrogen fertilizer, irrigation water, temperature, and precipitation.

Maintaining Landscape Functionality Under Land Use Change
2014Peri-urban growth can affect local flood and drought risks, which are exacerbated by climate change. Research into optimal planning and arrangement of landscape functions is needed to manage local flood and drought risks. As a first step, simple hydrological models are required to study the range of feedbacks and interactions within the peri-urban ...
