There is no Landauer Limit: Experimental tests of the Landauer principle

2012 12th IEEE International Conference on Nanotechnology (IEEE-NANO), 2012
Power dissipation is one of the most important factors limiting the development of integrated circuits. This work will explore the limits of energy dissipation in computation and show that there is no “Landauer Limit” at k B T ln2 as long as information is preserved.

Notes on Landauer's principle, reversible computation, and Maxwell's Demon [PDF]

open access: yesStudies in History and Philosophy of Science Part B - Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics, 2003
Landauer's principle, often regarded as the foundation of the thermodynamics of information processing, holds that any logically irreversible manipulation of information, such as the erasure of a bit or the merging of two computation paths, must be accompanied by a corresponding entropy increase in non-information bearing degrees of freedom of the ...

60 years of Landauer’s principle

Nature Reviews Physics, 2021
In 1961, Rolf Landauer noted that erasing one bit of information has a thermodynamics cost. This observation explained Maxwell’s demon paradox and was influential in the early days of quantum computing.

Exclusion principle and the Landauer-Büttiker formalism

Physical Review B, 1992
The Landauer-B\"uttiker formalism has been very successful in describing electronic transport in mesoscopic systems. However, unanswered questions remain regarding the role of the exclusion principle, especially if we allow inelastic processes to occur within the device.

Molecular Dynamics Simulations and the Landauer’s Principle

Open Systems & Information Dynamics, 2018
Landauer’s principle is a fundamental link between thermodynamics and information theory, which implies that the erasure of information comes at an energetic price. In the present contribution we analyze to what extend the usual molecular dynamics (MD) simulation formalism can handle the Landauer’s bound kBT ln 2 in the simplest case of one particle ...
