Quantum memories and landauer’s principle [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum Dynamics and Information, 2011
Two types of arguments concerning (im)possibility of constructing a scalable, exponentially stable quantum memory equipped with Hamiltonian controls are discussed. The first type concerns ergodic properties of open Kitaev models which are considered as promising candidates for such memories.

Photon Detection as a Process of Information Gain

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Making use of the equivalence between information and entropy, we have shown in a recent paper that particles moving with a kinetic energy ε carry potential information i p o t ( ε , T ) = 1 ln ( 2 ) ε k B   T relative ...

Quantum measurements and Landauer’s principle [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Information processing systems must obey laws of physics. One of particular examples of this general statement is known as Landauer’s principle - irreversible operations (such as erasure) performed by any computing device at finite temperature have to dissipate some amount of heat bound from below.

Switchable Magnonic Crystals Based on Spin Crossover/CrSBr Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale modeling is employed to investigate the functionality of a light‐controlled, tunable magnonic crystal based on spin‐crossover Fe‐pz molecules integrated with a monolayer of CrSBr. Ab initio simulations confirm that the molecules remain functional on the CrSBr surface, while a semiclassical elastic model demonstrates that light‐induced ...

An Application of Pontryagin’s Principle to Brownian Particle Engineered Equilibration

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
We present a stylized model of controlled equilibration of a small system in a fluctuating environment. We derive the optimal control equations steering in finite-time the system between two equilibrium states.

What Is Temperature? Modern Outlook on the Concept of Temperature

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The meaning and evolution of the notion of “temperature” (which is a key concept for the condensed and gaseous matter theories) are addressed from different points of view.

The Holevo bound and Landauer's principle [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Letters A, 1999
Landauer's principle states that the erasure of information generates a corresponding amount of entropy in the environment. We show that Landauer's principle provides an intuitive basis for Holevo bound on the classical capacity of a quantum channel.

Engineering Exciton g‐Factors With Light in Type‐II Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
All‐optical approaches have emerged as cutting‐edge alternatives for ultrafast, energy‐efficient, and spatially localized tuning and switching of material properties. In our work, we demonstrate how light intensity alone can be leveraged to engineer g‐factors from a single‐type of carrier in type‐II heterostructures through Coulomb‐induced wavefunction

Does Neuroticism Disrupt the Psychological Benefits of Nostalgia? A Meta‐analytic Test

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Personality, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract Nostalgia, a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, confers self‐oriented, existential, and social benefits. We examined whether nostalgic engagement is less beneficial for individuals who are high in neuroticism (i.e. emotionally unstable and prone to negative affect).
