In landfill, the control of degradable organics and related environmental impacts may be achieved by means of a series of options, including avoidance of putrescible fraction in landfilled waste (separate collection), prestabilization of waste prior to landfilling, in situ treatment to enhance biodegradation during landfilling and/or the aftercare ...

Understanding landfill gas behavior at elevated temperature landfills
Waste Management, 2023Landfill gas (LFG) wellhead data were compared to understand the range of observations due to unique conditions at five elevated temperature landfills (ETLFs) in the U.S. Correlations of the primary gas ratio, CH4:CO2, show distinct compositional indicators for (1) typical operation, (2) subsurface exothermic reactions (SERs), (3) high moisture content,

Getting from subsistence landfill to sophisticated landfill*
Waste Management and Research, 1999In an era of increasing mass communication and global access to information, with more chances for more people to have the opportunity to share experiences and ideas with others, why is 'open dumping' still the pre-eminent method of solid waste disposal?

Graveyards — Special landfills
Science of The Total Environment, 2012Graveyards have been a matter of controversial debate for many years in terms of the risk they pose to the environment. However, literature data are inconclusive and there are no systematic studies available from modern graveyards with special reference to soil found in the vicinity of the coffin.

Waste Management & Research: The Journal for a Sustainable Circular Economy, 1996
On average, there were 633 sanitary landfills in operation in 1990-92 in Finland. Annually, 380 landfill fires occurred, one-quarter of which were deep fires. The total amount of waste burnt in landfill fires was estimated to be 84,000 tonnes year-1.
