Optimizing Household Waste Recycling Centre Network Reorganization in Hampshire

open access: yesNetworks, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Local councils across the UK are facing sustained financial pressures, and Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are being increasingly considered for closure to reduce expenditure. In 2024, Hampshire County Council, which operates the largest HWRC network in the UK, proposed closing either five or twelve existing sites.

Reducing Ammonia Emission during Food Waste Composting and Enhancing Compost Quality Using Different Additives

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
This research successfully reduces the ammonia emission by 45% and achieves good quality compost using additives (lactic acid or acetic acid) and bulking agents (mature compost or sawdust). The study supports Sustainable Development Goals 12 and 13 by promoting waste‐to‐resource option.

Sepiolite Nanofibers Decorated With Zn Single Sites: A Sustainable Filler for Mechanically Robust and Self‐Healing Ionomeric Elastomer Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Fabrication of XNBR nanocomposites reinforced with Zn single‐site decorated sepiolite nanofibers. The resulting composites exhibit high mechanical strength and self‐healing performance, driven by dynamic interactions between the Zn single sites and the XNBR chains (inset).

Impact of Waste‐Derived Slate Dust on Structural, Thermal, and Thermomechanical Behavior of Recycled Poly(Ethylene Terephthalate)

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
This study investigates the use of waste slate dust as a filler in recycled PET. Incorporating up to 20 wt% slate dust caused no filler‐induced molecular degradation, increased the crystallization temperature, thermal conductivity, and storage modulus. ABSTRACT Recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) is widely considered a sustainable alternative to

Performance Evaluation of Compression‐Molded Recycled Mixed Plastic Fractions From Light Packaging

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Mixed HDPE/PP bottle‐cap waste was successfully processed through closed‐loop mechanical recycling. The recycled blends maintained stable thermal, rheological, and mechanical performance over multiple cycles, demonstrating the feasibility of valorizing heterogeneous polyolefin waste without advanced polymer separation.
