Apex predators exploit advantageous snow conditions across hunting modes
Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.

Lowland rivers with minimal topographic demarcation present significant challenges for geomorphological mapping. This study developed a detailed 1:50,000 geomorphological map of the Lys Valley (Belgium) by generating a relative elevation topographic ...

Surviving the winds through pattern formation: Mathematical modelling of heather stripes in Scotland
Heather (Calluna vulgaris) and bare soil sometimes form striking patterns in Scottish windy environments. Our simple mathematical model shows that interactions between vegetation, soil and wind—particularly local erosion reduction by plants and upwind shelter of plants by microtopography—are sufficient to generate these self‐organised patterns and ...

THE AESTHETICS OF URBAN METABOLISM: Landscape, Design and the Politics of In/Visibility
Abstract In this article, we chart the evolving aesthetic contours of urban metabolism across London, focusing on the River Lea and Thamesmead to the north and south of the River Thames, respectively. We begin in the nineteenth century, when these two sites formed critical nodes within a new sewerage system that relegated the city’s circulatory flows ...

Semi‐arid river dynamics from the internal geometry of river deposits
This article aims to understand fluvial dynamics based on the internal geometry of fluvial deposits, using radar morphostratigraphy in floodplains, especially those whose genesis is associated with anthropogenic controls, such as upstream of dams.

Phantasmic Encounters in the Arctic: Haunting Materialities Beyond the Ghosts of War
ABSTRACT In the vast north, ghostly experiences are common for locals and outsiders alike. Here, we explore how cultural‐natural attributes, like remoteness and extreme seasonal variation, compound experiences of the haunting in visceral ways. This provides the Arctic region with an unusually pronounced baseline of other‐than‐human agency, which in the

Relationship between regeneration of oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and land form [PDF]
This paper investigates the relationship between land form and location and natural regeneration of beech species. For this purpose, the beech communities over 100 m.
