Deep Learning Models for Mapping Surficial Geology in Selected Physiographic Regions of New York

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Deep learning models provide a faster, less resource‐intensive approach to mapping surficial materials. Though not a replacement for traditional mapping, the models and framework developed here can enhance the speed, consistency and quality of surficial geologic mapping when trained with high‐quality data, especially in glaciated terrain.

Linear Water Erosion in the State of Mato Grosso (Brazil): Spatial Analysis and Identification of Critical Areas

Mapping linear water erosion across Mato Grosso revealed spatially concentrated critical areas rather than a uniform distribution. Erosion foci were more frequent in environmentally fragile landscapes and areas of land‐use conflict, highlighting where monitoring and soil‐conservation actions should be prioritized.
