Formation Waters Delineate Diverse Hydrogeologic Conditions at a Plate Scale: Eastern Flank of the Juan de Fuca Ridge

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2022
The chemical composition of formation waters within the upper basaltic crust were calculated or measured at 24 sites on the northwest portion of the Juan de Fuca (JDF) Plate using data from sediment pore waters, scientific boreholes, and seafloor springs.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Biomechanical Parameters that May Influence Lower Limb Injury during Landing in Taekwondo

open access: yesMedicina, 2021
Background and Objectives: The jumping kick of Taekwondo was a unilateral exercise that repeatedly moves in one direction. The exercise was exposed to the risk of injury due to the heavy ground reaction force and load in the landing. The first purpose of

Prominent Movement Disorders in RNU2‐2‐Related Spliceosomopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric movement disorders often overlap with neurodevelopmental diseases, suggesting shared molecular mechanisms. Variants in small nuclear RNA (snRNA) genes encoding spliceosome components have recently been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, termed “RNUopathies.” We analyzed genome sequencing data from 14 patients with ...

A long-term decline in the abundance of endangered leatherback turtles, Dermochelys coriacea, at a foraging ground in the California Current Ecosystem

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2020
Pacific leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea) are critically endangered, and declines have been documented at multiple nesting sites throughout the Pacific. The western Pacific leatherback forages in temperate and tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific

Moderators of the Effects of Exercise and Manual Therapy for People With Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to investigate potential moderators influencing the effects of manual therapy and exercise therapy on pain and functional outcomes in individuals with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis, using data from the MOA trial. This is a secondary analysis of data from the MOA trial that compares the clinical effectiveness of manual ...

Coastal wetland deposition of cathode metals from the world’s largest lithium-ion battery fire

open access: yesScientific Reports
Fires at lithium-ion battery storage facilities pose emerging environmental risks that remain largely undocumented under real-world conditions. Following a major fire at the world’s largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Moss Landing, California,
