INCORPORATING many kinds of engineering in its design and construction, modern landing gear has advanced to the stage in which almost any aircraft can be supplied with a retractable configuration which can be stowed in a space which is often limited by aerodynamic and structural constraints.

Multiaxial fatigue assessment for outer cylinder of landing gear by critical plane method
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2021The in-service loadings on the landing gear are usually complex and from different directions, which lead to the fatigue critical locations in the landing gear structure mostly in multiaxial stress state.

WHILE an aircraft is in flight, the landing gear is a liability which, by virtue of its weight and size, and demands upon power supplies, reduces the efficiency of the aircraft. However, at two of the most critical and dangerous parts of the sortie, namely take‐off and landing, the safety of the aircraft depends to a very great extent upon the landing ...

Rotorcraft Dynamic Platform Landings Using Robotic Landing Gear
Journal of Dynamic Systems Measurement, and Control, 2021Articulating landing gear that use closed-loop feedback control are proven to expand the landing capabilities of rotorcraft on sloped and rough terrain. These systems are commonly referred to as robotic landing gear (RLG).

THE BASIC MILITARY NEED for the C‐5 relates to the ‘Remote Presence’ concept involving rapid deployment of troops and all heavy equipment to any remote location thereby allowing for minimised standing army and equipment requirements. This ‘Remote Presence’ concept requires that a 300 ton airplane land and takeoff from an unsurfaced field.

HAVING supplied components for early versions of the Airbus 300 as well as the A300–600 and A310, Dowty Rotol was in a strong position to offer its expertise on the A320. The company has design leadership on the main landing gear for this latest Airbus product and manufactures the units in a consortium with its partners, Messier‐Hispano‐Bugatti.
