Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Jumping and Landing Kinematics in Spanish Female Soccer Players: A Comparison Between Elite and Non-Elite Athletes

open access: yesSensors
Landing from a jump has been identified as a common situation of increased risk in sport and the tuck jump assessment (TJA) has been proposed for a comprehensive examination of landing mechanics.

Land value appraisal using statistical methods

open access: yes, 2019
The taxation of property based on market values requires frequent appraisals for a large number of properties. In light of the recent property tax reform discussion in Germany, it has been argued that a valuebased tax therefore cannot be implemented at a reasonable cost.

Utilizing Ground-Based LIDAR Measurements to Aid Autonomous Airdrop Systems

open access: yes, 2017
Uncertainty in atmospheric winds represents one of the primary sources of landing error in airdrop systems. In this work, a ground-based LIDAR system samples the wind field at discrete points above the target and transmits real-time data to approaching ...

Moderators of the effects of exercise and manual therapy for people with knee and hip osteoarthritis: A secondary analysis of the MOA trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study aimed to investigate potential moderators influencing the effects of manual therapy and exercise therapy on pain and functional outcomes in individuals with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis, using data from the MOA trial. Design This is a secondary analysis of data from the MOA trial that compared the clinical effectiveness of manual

Assessing Cephalopods Fisheries in the Strait of Sicily by Using Poor Data Modeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Cephalopods, including octopuses, squids, and cuttlefishes, are exploited by both bottom trawl and small-scale fisheries (SSF) in most of the Mediterranean areas.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Interfering factors in the impact magnitudes during jump throw landing in handball [PDF]

open access: yesMotricidade, 2011
This study aimed to analyze the impact magnitude in the lower limbs during the landing phase in handball jump throw as well as to relate the impacts with the body weight (BW), jump height (JH) and the knee flexion angle (KA) and hip flexion angle (HA ...

The Lost Coin: Redefining the economic and financial value of small-scale fisheries, the case of Lake Victoria, Kenya

open access: yesSocial Sciences and Humanities Open, 2021
Whereas small-scale fisheries account for the largest proportion of fish catches and employment in most developing countries, their value remain underestimated due to inadequate data collection systems, open access challenges and unreported landings ...

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries
