Landsat-8 TIRS radiometric calibration status

Earth Observing Systems XXV, 2020
The Landsat-8 Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) has been acquiring two-band thermal infrared images of the Earth’s surface since 2013. The calibration of the two-band system has been monitored using the on-board calibrator and validated with vicarious calibration performed by NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Rochester Institute of Technology since ...

Landsat-8 data processing evolution

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
Shortly after Landsat-8 launched in February 2013, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center began creating radiometrically and geometrically corrected products. In order to provide these products as soon as possible, the Landsat Product Generation System (LPGS) was developed based on instrument designs and

Landsat 8 TIRS calibration with external sensors

Earth Observing Systems XXII, 2017
This paper deals with a calibration algorithm to be used with data from the Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) on board Landsat 8. Some non-uniform banding calibration errors have been observed in TIRS data since it was launched in 2013. Investigations have shown that this artifact is due to out-of-field radiance that scatters onto the TIRS focal plane.
