Validation of landsat-8 OLI image simulation

2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017
Simulated remote sensing imagery is valuable for instrument design studies, analysis algorithm development and validation, as well as analyst training. The Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing Image Generation (DIRSIG) suite of software is an image simulation tool developed by the Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing (DIRS) Laboratory at the Rochester ...

Statistical relative gain calculation for Landsat 8

Earth Observing Systems XXII, 2017
The Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) is an optical multispectral push-broom sensor with a focal plane consisting of over 7000 detectors per spectral band. Each of the individual imaging detectors contributes one column of pixels to an image. Any difference in the response between neighboring detectors may result in a visible stripe or band in ...

Landsat 8: status and on-orbit performance

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
Landsat 8 and its two Earth imaging sensors, the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) have been operating on-orbit for 2 ½ years. Landsat 8 has been acquiring substantially more images than initially planned, typically around 700 scenes per day versus a 400 scenes per day requirement, acquiring nearly all land scenes.

Landsat-8 TIRS thermal radiometric calibration status

Earth Observing Systems XXII, 2017
The Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) instrument is the thermal-band imager on the Landsat-8 platform. The initial onorbit calibration estimates of the two TIRS spectral bands indicated large average radiometric calibration errors, -0.29 and -0.51 W/m2 sr μm or -2.1K and -4.4K at 300K in Bands 10 and 11, respectively, as well as high variability in the ...

Crop Classification Using Multitemporal Landsat 8 Images

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
The objective of this study is to investigate the potential of multitemporal remote sensing images for crop classification. Multi-temporal Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS C1 Level-1 images were acquired. The surface reflectance of visible and near infrared bands was used to represent the characteristics of crops.

2017
The study of instruments and assessment tools in Canopy cover using temporal satellite data is the subject of intense research interest worldwide. The protection and control of environmental resources, namely forests and also their rational management, could contribute significantly to reducing the greenhouse effect, the lowering of flood phenomena and

Mapping karst rocky desertification using Landsat 8 images

Remote Sensing Letters, 2015
Karst rocky desertification (KRD) is a serious ecological problem in southwest China. Various remote sensing techniques are available for investigating KRD. Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) data, acquired in September (summer) 2013 and January (winter) 2014, were used to analyse the role of vegetation fraction, bedrock exposure, and slope on KRD

Landsat 8 on-orbit characterization and calibration system

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
The Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) is planning to launch the Landsat 8 satellite in December 2012, which continues an uninterrupted record of consistently calibrated globally acquired multispectral images of the Earth started in 1972. The satellite will carry two imaging sensors: the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and the Thermal Infrared ...
