Evaluation of a rule-based compositing technique for Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ images

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation, 2016
Abstract Image compositing is a multi-objective optimization process. Its goal is to produce a seamless cloud and artefact-free artificial image. This is achieved by aggregating image observations and by replacing poor and cloudy data with good observations from imagery acquired within the timeframe of interest.

Historical data reveal extirpation of foundation species and kelp forest community deborealization in a coastal hotspot

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 3, April 2026.
Abstract Climate change is restructuring ecological communities globally, yet the impacts are often underestimated or poorly resolved due to the lack of historical baselines. In temperate oceans, biologically diverse and socioeconomically important kelp forests are the marine ecosystem most threatened by climate change.

Remote sensing reveals that wild herbivores limit senescent vegetation accumulation on dryland conservation reserves

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 3, April 2026.
Abstract Wild herbivores threaten vegetation recovery on dryland conservation reserves globally. Monitoring herbivore impacts in remote drylands is difficult because vegetation biomass transitions between living and senescent states in response to irregular precipitation events.

LANDSAT-4/5 image data quality analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
A LANDSAT Thematic Mapper (TM) quality evaluation study was conducted to identify geometric and radiometric sensor errors in the post-launch environment. The study began with the launch of LANDSAT-4. Several error conditions were found, including band-to-

Land Cover Change Monitoring Using Landsat MSS/TM Satellite Image Data over West Africa between 1975 and 1990 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
: Monitoring land cover changes from the 1970s in West Africa is important for assessing the dynamics between land cover types and understanding the anthropogenic impact during this period.

Detection of changes in coral reef communities using Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ data

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2003
Satellite remote sensing is increasingly used to map and monitor coral reefs. From 1984 to the present, Landsat-5 thematic mapper (TM) and Landsat-7 enhanced thematic mapper plus (ETM+) images provide the longest time series available for change detection analysis over coral reefs. A time series of four Landsat-5 images and one Landsat-7 image spanning

Landsat 4 Thematic Mapper Calibration Update [PDF]

open access: yes
The Landsat-4 Thematic Mapper collected imagery of the Earth's surface from 1982 to 1993. Although largely overshadowed by Landsat 5, which was launched in 1984, Landsat 4 TM imagery extends the Thematic Mapper-based record of the Earth back to 1982 and ...

Twenty-Five Years of Landsat Thermal Band Calibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Landsat-7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper+ (ETM+), launched in April 1999, and Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper (TM), launched in 1984, both have a single thermal band.
