Amazonia 2040: Spatial‐explicit futures scenarios for the mosaic of protected areas in the Lower Rio Negro (MBRN), Brazil

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April/June 2026.
Spatial‐explicit futures scenarios were applied in the Mosaic of Protected Areas of the Lower Rio Negro (MBRN), for co‐creating scenarios for the MBRN in the year 2040. Scenario making enabled negotiating desirable futures, aligning values and goals.

Evaluation of Landsat-9 interoperability with Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 over Europe and local comparison with field surveys

open access: yesISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
The recent launch of Landsat-9 satellite enriches the opportunities to work with dense time series of multispectral medium-resolution images. The integration of Landsat-9 in a multi-constellation series with Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 requires a harmonization of the surface reflectance values that can be obtained from the official Level-2 products.

Historical data reveal extirpation of foundation species and kelp forest community deborealization in a coastal hotspot

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 3, April 2026.
Abstract Climate change is restructuring ecological communities globally, yet the impacts are often underestimated or poorly resolved due to the lack of historical baselines. In temperate oceans, biologically diverse and socioeconomically important kelp forests are the marine ecosystem most threatened by climate change.

Niche Segregation Between Black‐Necked Crane and Common Crane in Human‐Modified Landscape, Huize Black‐Necked Crane National Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, Southwestern China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
We investigated how Black‐necked Cranes and Common Cranes coexist in agro‐wetland landscapes of southwest China by reconstructing their plant‐based diets using eDNA metabarcoding. Black‐necked Cranes maintained broad, stable diets centered on natural vegetation, while Common Cranes shifted dynamically to energy‐dense crops, leading to progressive niche

Pangolin Distribution and Predicted Habitat Loss From the Nagmati Dam in Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, Nepal

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Chinese pangolin burrows in Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park showed a clumped distribution influenced by slope and NDVI. The proposed Nagmati Dam and reservoir will inundate key pangolin habitats, causing significant habitat loss. The environmental impact assessment of the dam ignored these threats, highlighting the need for urgent reassessment to ...

Generalized Additive Model With Dynamic Coefficients for Spatiotemporal Ozone Predictions

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 37, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate prediction of surface‐level ozone concentrations is critical for air quality management and public health protection. This study develops a flexible spatiotemporal statistical modeling framework to predict daily mean O3 concentrations across Italy by integrating satellite‐derived ozone estimates with ground‐based observations and high‐

Integrating Remote Sensing and Machine Learning for Enhanced Surface Urban Heat Island Analysis and Its Impact on Building Energy Demand

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 2051-2069, April 2026.
Satellite (MODIS) mapping links Urban Heat Island (UHI) intensity to city‐scale energy demand—higher daytime cooling demand and altered nighttime heating demand—supporting targeted mitigation and planning. ABSTRACT This study examines the surface urban heat island (SUHI) effect on building energy consumption in Tehran from 1998 to 2024, utilizing MODIS

Observed Hydroclimatic Trends and Their Implications Over Water‐Cycle Dynamics in Montérégie, Southern Quebec, Canada

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 4, April 2026.
In this study, we quantified the changes in different hydroclimatic parameters and evaluated their impacts on the groundwater resources across Montérégie. Using the GR4J+CemaNeige model, and multi‐decadal hydroclimatic records, the study shows the watershed's variability and identifies seasons and land cover scenarios where groundwater recharge ...
