Unravelling Cascading Phenomena in Sociotechnical Systems: A Systematic Review and Modelling Framework

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article investigates the characterization of cascading phenomena within sociotechnical systems through a systematic review and the development of a conceptual modelling framework. Cascading phenomena, often described using terms such as ripple effect, domino effect, cascading failure, risk propagation and cascading effect, capture the far‐

Cyclone Ditwah (2025): moderate‐intensity tropical cyclone brings record flooding and damage to Sri Lanka

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
Cyclone Ditwah (2025) made landfall in Sri Lanka as a tropical cyclone with only moderate intensity winds (~65–75kmh−1). Yet, its prolonged heavy rainfall also led to landslides and widespread flooding across Sri Lanka and the southern Indian states, with the combined effects of hazards causing impacts totalling 4.1 billion USD. Ditwah is, therefore, a

The Capability of Spatial Analysis in Planning the Accessibility for Hazard Community from Debris-Flow Events

open access: yes, 2012
Debris flow is a destructive disaster causing tragic loss and damages to vulnerable people and their properties in many regions around the world. According an impact of this disaster, hazard areas are submerged in mud and debris causing enormous ...

Trends in thunderstorm days, lightning activity, squalls and the environmental factors in Hong Kong

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
This study analyses trends in Hong Kong's convective weather using long‐term observer‐based and shorter‐term instrument‐based data. Annual thunderstorm days increased significantly by 1.9 days decade−1 in 1947–2024, notably in June–September, consistent with increasingly favourable warm‐season environments for thunderstorms.

Multimodal method for coseismic landslide hazard assessment

open access: yes, 2018
Regional-scale coseismic landslide hazard assessments have traditionally been based on infinite-slope analyses, considering only a single mode of failure.

Modelling the Four‐Dimensional Power Line Sag Dynamics by Point Signature in Time‐Series Synthetic‐Aperture Radar Images

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Power lines in synthetic‐aperture radar (SAR) images are reflected as point signatures, which fluctuate annually in both the azimuth and range directions. A novel framework is proposed in this paper to evaluate the four‐dimensional dynamic status of power line sag using those point signatures in time‐series SAR images.

Weight of Evidence (WOE) Model Based on GIS to Evaluate Landslides Susceptibility (Case study: Jaghargh Watershed)

open access: yesتحقيقات جغرافيايی, 2016
Landslide is an important geological hazard that causes damage to natural and social environment. Landslide hazard assessment is an important step towards risk management and there are several methods of Landslide Hazard Zonation (LHZ).
