Evaluation of factors controlling large earthquake-induced landslides by the Wenchuan earthquake [PDF]
During the 12 May 2008, Wenchuan earthquake in China, more than 15 000 landslides were triggered by the earthquake. Among these landslides, there were 112 large landslides generated with a plane area greater than 50 000 m2.

Automatic landslide length and width estimation based on the geometric processing of the bounding box and the geomorphometric analysis of DEMs [PDF]
The morphology of landslides is influenced by the slide/flow of the material downslope. Usually, the distance of the movement of the material is greater than the width of the displaced material (especially for flows, but also the majority of slides); the

Predicting Landslides Using Locally Aligned Convolutional Neural Networks
Landslides, movement of soil and rock under the influence of gravity, are common phenomena that cause significant human and economic losses every year. Experts use heterogeneous features such as slope, elevation, land cover, lithology, rock age, and rock

Scaling Properties of Rainfall-Induced Landslides Predicted by a Physically Based Model
Natural landslides exhibit scaling properties revealed by power law relationships. These relationships include the frequency of the size (e.g., area, volume) of the landslides, and the rainfall conditions responsible for slope failures in a region ...

MPM simulations of the impact of fast landslides on retaining dams [PDF]
Possible protection systems against flow-like landslides are earth dams built to stop or deviate the flow. The evaluation of impact forces on the structures is still based on oversimplified empirical approaches, which may lead to a very conservative ...

ABSTRACT The ecology of forests, their losses, and terrestrial wood decomposition dynamics have been intensively studied and reviewed. In the aquatic realm, reviews have concentrated on large wood (LW) in rivers and the transition from freshwater to marine environments in the Pacific Northwest of North America. However, a comprehensive global synthesis

The impacts of biological invasions
ABSTRACT The Anthropocene is characterised by a continuous human‐mediated reshuffling of the distributions of species globally. Both intentional and unintentional introductions have resulted in numerous species being translocated beyond their native ranges, often leading to their establishment and subsequent spread – a process referred to as biological
