The Composite of Activated Carbon/Magnetic Iron Oxide: Synthesis, Isothermal, and Kinetic Studies of Ciprofloxacin and Tetracycline Adsorption From a Binary-Component Solution

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology
The composite of activated carbon/magnetic iron oxide (AC/Fe3O4) is in situ prepared from AC derived from rice husk and the mixture of ferrous and ferric salt solutions in the present study.

Applicability of Tempkin Equilibrium and Elovich Kinetics for Chemisorption of Brown HE-2G on Calendula Officinalis [PDF]

open access: yesIranica Journal of Energy and Environment, 2018
Calendula officinalis is a low-cost material used as adsorbent for the removal of textile dye, Brown HE-2G.  The effect of pH, concentration of dyes, adsorbent dose and contact time were obtained by batch adsorption technique.

Oxidation of tertiary amine-derivatized surfaces to control protein adhesion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Selective oxidation of omega-tertiary amine self-assembled thiol monolayers to tertiary amine N-oxides is shown to transform the adhesion of model proteins lysozyme and fibrinogen upon them.

Uncovering the Lipid Interface in Neurotransmission: Single Molecule Measurements of Neurotransmitters Interacting with Membranes Reveal Species Dependent Membrane Binding

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐molecule whispering gallery mode sensors, neurotransmitter‐specific membrane binding signatures are measured that reveal intrinsically distinct interaction kinetics and orientations on a lipid membrane. Abstract Neurotransmitters (NTs) have traditionally been understood to act via aqueous‐phase receptor binding, but growing evidence ...

Adsorption of methylene blue and malachite green on micro-mesoporous carbon materials

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2017
The aim of this work was to investigate the determination of adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms for methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) from aqueous solutions, on micro-mesoporous carbon materials, C–HA, C–HA–CO 2 , C–CA and C–CA–CO 2 ,

Adsorption study of 4-nitrophenol from aqueous solution on activated carbon with nitrogen heteroatoms on its surface: application of the sips model

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Química, 2018
The amination of a nitric acid pre-oxidized activated carbon in the adsorption of 4-nitrophenol was evaluated. The Sips model application to the aqueous solution adsorption data, using Sigmoidal Logistic 3 Parameter formula, in the SigmaPlot 12 program ...

Mechanism‐Driven Screening of Membrane‐Targeting and Pore‐Forming Antimicrobial Peptides

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To combat antibiotic resistance, this study employs mechanism‐driven screening with machine learning to identify pore‐forming antimicrobial peptides from amphibian and human metaproteomes. Seven peptides are validated, showing minimal toxicity and membrane disruption.

IgG‐Bridging–Seeded Synergistic Aggregation of SARS‐CoV‐2 Spikes Underlies Potent Neutralization by a Low‐Affinity Antibody

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Low‐affinity antibodies are frequently disregarded in discovery pipelines. This work reports P5‐1C8, a Class 1 SARS‐CoV‐2 antibody with weak trimer binding (KD‐to‐IC50 > 3700‐fold) yet potent neutralization of Omicron JN.1. Structural, biophysical, functional, and coarse‐grained simulations collectively demonstrate that transient inter‐spike IgG ...

Effect of Nano-Sized Cavities in SAPO-34 Zeolite on Thermodynamics of Adsorbed Gas Mixtures

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2018
Adsorption of dimethyl ether and ethene in SAPO-34 zeolite with the calorimetric (adsorption heat versus coverage) curve measured together with the adsorption isotherm showed two phases of adsorption: first, Type 1 adsorption on acid sites, and second ...
