AbstractAppendectomy was performed using a laparoscopic approach in 915 patients. The collected data show that the technique is as feasible, rapid, and safe as open surgery. Few wound infections, minimal pain, and rapid postoperative mobilization are the main arguments in favor of laparoscopic appendectomy. The most important potential benefit, a lower

Occasionally the surgeon has to venture into exploratory laparotomy, in order to confirm his assessment and also to treat accordingly. However, laparoscopy has become a means of minimising such situations for the surgeon. Against this background few surgeons have of late, been using the laparoscope for confirming or discounting the particular pathology

Laparoscopic gastrostomy was performed successfully on six consecutive patients after the procedure was developed using a porcine model. These patients were unable to undergo percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies because of obstruction from cancer or anatomical blockage. Operative time averaged less than 18 min.

Laparoscopic enterocystoplasty
Urology, 2000To report the initial clinical experience with laparoscopic augmentation enterocystoplasty using the ileum, sigmoid, or right colon.Three patients with functionally reduced bladder capacities due to neurogenic causes underwent laparoscopic enterocystoplasty: ileocystoplasty (n = 1), sigmoidocystoplasty (n = 1), and cystoplasty with cecum and proximal ...

To the Editor. —The cost of laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be lowered. In the recent Letters section of JAMA , 1 the hospital cost was $4633 and $6750 at two different centers. Our group has done more than 1200 laparoscopic cholecystectomies. A recent audit of 50 cases (age less than 60 years, elective cases) showed an average hospital charge of ...

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has supplanted open cholecystectomy for most gallbladder pathology. Experience has allowed the development of now well-established technical nuances, and training has raised the level of performance so that safe LC is possible. If safe cholecystectomy cannot be performed because of acute inflammation, LC tube placement

We describe the use of laparoscopic techniques in hysterectomy, and the epidemiology of hysterectomy. We review the advantages and complications of total laparoscopic hysterectomy and subtotal laparoscopic hysterectomy. Finally, we discuss long-term outcomes and the cost of these techniques.

We are now performing laparoscopic adnexectomy in selected cases of benign pathology of the adnexa. This report is presented to show that even fairly large tumors may be removed by this technique. It involves 30 cases of tumors having a diameter more than 4 cm that were operated on over a period of 12 months.

A laparoscopic jejunostomy was performed in a patient for long-term feeding purposes. The more important details of the surgical technique are described, as well as a description of a new laparoscopic needle holder, for the suturing in the peritoneal cavity.

Laparoscopic cholecystotomy (LCT) with primary closure of the gallbladder is a treatment option for patients with symptomatic cholecystolithiasis in a well-functioning gallbladder. In contrast to other gallbladder-preserving minimally invasive or interventional methods, LCT is a one-session procedure avoiding the need for post-operative drainage of the
