A technique for laparoscopic splenectomy is described. The patient is placed in the right semidecubitus position and pneumoperitoneum is prepared. The splenic artery and vein are exposed near the hilum, using a laparoscopic ultrasonic dissector. The larger vessels are doubly ligated, and the spleen is resected and maneuvered into a nylon surgical sack;

Extramucosal pyloromyotomy is a method with predictable morbidity and outcome for the cure of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The method created by Ramstedt is successfully performed using a laparoscopic approach. Preliminary reports, including 266 cases treated by laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP), suggest that morbidity is comparable to that ...

The first laparoscopic hysterectomy using only laparoscopic techniques was performed around 10 years ago by Harry Reich. Such total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) approach is surgically elegant but technically difficult. A number of alternative laparoscopic techniques to perform all or some of the hysterectomy have since been introduced to simplify ...

Purpose We investigated the following issues regarding laparoscopic adrenalectomy: techniques and advantages, indications in adrenal diseases, and the special case of pheochromocytoma. Methods Qualified literature reports were reviewed and integrated with results of our initial experience with laparoscopic adrenalectomy.

Advances in minimally invasive surgery have made it possible to remove solid organs such as the adrenal gland laparoscopically. Several studies have shown that when applied to appropriate operative candidates, laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a safe alternative to conventional open surgery with real advantages in terms of decreasing postoperative pain and

A laparoscopic jejunostomy was performed in a patient for long-term feeding purposes. The more important details of the surgical technique are described, as well as a description of a new laparoscopic needle holder, for the suturing in the peritoneal cavity.

Laparoscopic gastrostomy was performed successfully on six consecutive patients after the procedure was developed using a porcine model. These patients were unable to undergo percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies because of obstruction from cancer or anatomical blockage. Operative time averaged less than 18 min.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has supplanted open cholecystectomy for most gallbladder pathology. Experience has allowed the development of now well-established technical nuances, and training has raised the level of performance so that safe LC is possible. If safe cholecystectomy cannot be performed because of acute inflammation, LC tube placement

Laparoscopic Choledochoenterostomy
Surgical Innovation, 1998The modern biliary surgeon must deal with laparoscopic procedures as part of his or her daily routine. Almost all barriers to laparoscopic cholecystectomy have been erased, and more and more surgeons are approaching common bile duct problems from a new viewpoint. Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration is being advocated by many more surgeons than in

We are now performing laparoscopic adnexectomy in selected cases of benign pathology of the adnexa. This report is presented to show that even fairly large tumors may be removed by this technique. It involves 30 cases of tumors having a diameter more than 4 cm that were operated on over a period of 12 months.
