Laparoscopic Dismembered Pyeloplasty

open access: yesThe Journal of Urology, 1995
As a reconstructive laparoscopic procedure, dismembered pyeloplasty was done in 5 patients: the laparoscopic procedure was completed in 4 and converted to an open operation in 1. Within this series operative time decreased from 390 to 190 minutes. The main operating time was devoted to laparoscopic suturing of the anastomosis.

Laparoscopic redo pyeloplasty for previously failed open pyeloplasty can be quite challenging, due to the extensive adhesions and fibrosis following the previous operation.

We have prospectively maintained a database to document our initial experience of 54 laparoscopic pyeloplasty. All procedures were carried out by one surgeon through a transperitoneal approach.
