Single-site umbilical laparoscopic pyloromyotomy

Seminars in Pediatric Surgery, 2011
Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy was first reported 20 years ago. This technique uses a small umbilical incision and 2 small upper abdominal incisions. During the last 5 years, this approach has become the preferred technique for many pediatric surgeons in the infant who needs a pyloromyotomy.

Feasibility of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy under spinal anesthesia

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2014
Most agents used for GA are considered to be neurotoxins and affect developing brains in experimental models, leading to a push for spinal anesthesia (SA). There are no reports of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP) performed under SA. We present our experience with LP and SA and discuss feasibility.A retrospective analysis was performed on a consecutive ...

Open vs. laparoscopic pyloromyotomy – a retrospective analysis

Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies, 2008
Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy has obtained increasing importance in the last years. However, there is no proof of an obvious advantage of the laparoscopic over the open approach. This retrospective analysis of 157 infants with pyloromyotomies (129 open and 28 laparoscopic procedures) should settle the benefit of one of these procedures.

Cost-effectiveness of laparoscopic versus open pyloromyotomy

Journal of Surgical Research, 2012
Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis can be corrected by either open (OP) or laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP). LP may provide clinical benefits of reduced time to postoperative full feeds and reduced postoperative inpatient stay, but the cost effectiveness is not known.

The Learning Curve Associated with Laparoscopic Pyloromyotomy

Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, 2005
Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LPM) for the treatment of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) has gained popularity in recent years. This study examines the learning curve associated with LPM.We performed a retrospective analysis of patients undergoing LPM at a children's hospital between January 1, 1997 and June 30, 2003.

Post-laparoscopic pyloromyotomy vomiting: analysis of predictors other than incomplete pyloromyotomy

Journal of Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery, 2020
Post-pyloromyotomy vomiting (PPV) is common problem. Some cases continue vomiting despite of adequate pyloromyotomy. Several pre- and postoperative factors may have a role. The aim of this study is to detect infants at risk of prolonged PPMV. Fifty-three infants with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis were operated at single tertiary center ...

Risk of incomplete pyloromyotomy and mucosal perforation in open and laparoscopic pyloromyotomy

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2014
Despite randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses, it remains unclear whether laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP) carries a higher risk of incomplete pyloromyotomy and mucosal perforation compared with open pyloromyotomy (OP).Multicenter study of all pyloromyotomies (May 2007-December 2010) at nine high-volume institutions.

Physiological Effects of Pneumoperitoneum in Laparoscopic Pyloromyotomy

Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, 2006
A retrospective analysis comparing intraoperative physiological variables during laparoscopic and open pyloromyotomies was undertaken during an 18-month period at our institution. Fifty cases were examined (22 laparocopic and 28 open). Operative time, temperature change, end-tidal CO2, heart rate, and blood pressure were examined and compared.

Pyloromyotomy (Open and Laparoscopic Approach)

2019
This chapter describes surgical pyloromyotomy as performed by both open and laparoscopic techniques for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The text includes an introduction that outlines the indications, risks, alternatives, essential steps needed, equipment, and variations in technique for the procedure in question.

A New Technique for Laparoscopic Pyloromyotomy

Pediatric Endosurgery & Innovative Techniques, 1998
ABSTRACT We recently performed laparoscopic pyloromyotomy on five patients with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. In the first case, the pylorus was incised using a Babcock intestinal clamp according to the procedure of laparoscopic pyloric traumamyoplasty reported by Castanon et al.
