Physiological Effects of Pneumoperitoneum in Laparoscopic Pyloromyotomy
Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, 2006A retrospective analysis comparing intraoperative physiological variables during laparoscopic and open pyloromyotomies was undertaken during an 18-month period at our institution. Fifty cases were examined (22 laparocopic and 28 open). Operative time, temperature change, end-tidal CO2, heart rate, and blood pressure were examined and compared.

Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy: is a knife really necessary?
World Journal of Pediatrics, 2011Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP) is currently accepted as a suitable treatment modality for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). In this report, we describe some technical modifications of LP using a 3- or 5-mm hook with electrocautery as a substitute for a knife for incising the pylorus.

Cost-effectiveness of laparoscopic versus open pyloromyotomy
Journal of Surgical Research, 2012Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis can be corrected by either open (OP) or laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP). LP may provide clinical benefits of reduced time to postoperative full feeds and reduced postoperative inpatient stay, but the cost effectiveness is not known.

Single-site umbilical laparoscopic pyloromyotomy
Seminars in Pediatric Surgery, 2011Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy was first reported 20 years ago. This technique uses a small umbilical incision and 2 small upper abdominal incisions. During the last 5 years, this approach has become the preferred technique for many pediatric surgeons in the infant who needs a pyloromyotomy.

Pyloromyotomy (Open and Laparoscopic Approach)
2019This chapter describes surgical pyloromyotomy as performed by both open and laparoscopic techniques for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. The text includes an introduction that outlines the indications, risks, alternatives, essential steps needed, equipment, and variations in technique for the procedure in question.

Open vs. laparoscopic pyloromyotomy – a retrospective analysis
Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies, 2008Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy has obtained increasing importance in the last years. However, there is no proof of an obvious advantage of the laparoscopic over the open approach. This retrospective analysis of 157 infants with pyloromyotomies (129 open and 28 laparoscopic procedures) should settle the benefit of one of these procedures.

Feasibility of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy under spinal anesthesia
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2014Most agents used for GA are considered to be neurotoxins and affect developing brains in experimental models, leading to a push for spinal anesthesia (SA). There are no reports of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP) performed under SA. We present our experience with LP and SA and discuss feasibility.A retrospective analysis was performed on a consecutive ...

A comparison of laparoscopic and open pyloromyotomy at a teaching hospital
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2002An increasing number of pediatric surgeons are using the laparoscopic approach to treat pyloric stenosis. The advantage of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy is uncertain and has not been evaluated in the setting of a pediatric surgery fellowship program. The authors retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients who underwent pyloromyotomy for ...

A Simulation Model to Support Laparoscopic Pyloromyotomy Teaching
Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, 2018A key concern regarding laparoscopic pyloromyotomy (LP) lies with the process of learning this skill. The learning processes for open pyloromyotomy and LP appear to be different, with an earlier increased risk of perforation or incomplete pyloromyotomy (IP) for LP. Our aim was to develop a simple simulation tool to reduce these specific complications.A
