VENTRAL HERNIA REPAIR BY THE LAPAROSCOPIC APPROACH

Surgical Clinics of North America, 2000
An analysis of these results indicates that laparoscopic hernia repair can be performed safely by experienced laparoscopic surgeons, and with lower perioperative complication rates than for open hernia repair. Although the follow-up period for the laparoscopic repair is only 2 or 3 years, the recurrence rate is likely lower than with open repair.

Laparoscopic Repair of Ventral Hernia

European Surgery-Acta Chirurgica Austriaca, 2003
Background: Recently, it has become widely accepted that prosthetic material is needed for the repair of incisional hernias. Therefore, the laparoscopic approach with an intraperitoneal onlay mesh technique seems to be promising. No dissection of the abdominal wall is necessary, implying reduced surgical trauma.

Controversies in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair.

Minerva chirurgica, 2015
The introduction of laparoscopy as a surgical technique provided a method preventing major abdominal wall incisions and improving recovery of the patient after surgery. In abdominal wall surgery laparoscopic ventral hernia repair has proven to be at least as save as open repair.

Laparoscopic Repair of Ventral Hernia

1999
The general indication for a laparoscopic repair of a ventral hernia is the presence of a hernia with a fascial defect 3 cm or greater in patients who would otherwise meet the criteria for a traditional open surgical repair. Small hernia defects less than 3 cm in diameter are readily repaired by standard techniques, and the laparoscopic approach ...
