In addition to its use for diagnosis the laparoscope with added instruments is used to ligate fallopian tubes and to remove ovarian tissue for biopsy.

• Laparoscopic evaluation of the peritoneal cavity permits magnified visualization of peritoneum and intra-abdominal organs with less tissue trauma than laparotomy. • Laparoscopy can detect pus, feces, bile or blood — facilitating the identification of the source of intra-abdominal pathology and estimating its severity.
