Comparison of the Peritoneal Cancer Index and Dutch region count as tools to stage patients with peritoneal metastases of colorectal cancer

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1153-1161, December 2020., 2020
This retrospective study compared two classification tools, the Dutch region count and the Peritoneal Cancer Index, for colorectal peritoneal metastases, and validated the results in a separate cohort. The region count was easier to apply, and may benefit doctors who refer patients to expert centres.

Obese patients and robotic colorectal surgery: systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1042-1053, December 2020., 2020
Obesity is a major health problem that doubles the chance of colorectal cancer. The benefits of robotic surgery for colorectal operations in obese patients versus non‐obese patients are unknown. This meta‐analysis and systematic review highlights that robotic surgery in obese patients is similar and feasible compared with that in non‐obese patients ...

Prevention of incisional hernia after midline laparotomy with prophylactic mesh reinforcement: a meta‐analysis and trial sequential analysis

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 357-368, June 2020., 2020
Prophylactic mesh reinforcement of a midline laparotomy leads to a significant reduction in the rate of incisional hernia in high‐risk patients, for both onlay and retromuscular mesh reinforcement. Mesh high risk patients Background Incisional hernia is a frequent complication after abdominal surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of

Randomized clinical trial of the effect of intraoperative humidified carbon dioxide insufflation in open laparotomy for colorectal resection

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 45-58, February 2020., 2020
Open abdominal surgery leads to peritoneal desiccation and damage, resulting in inflammation. This peritoneal damage can be mitigated by the use of warmed, humidified carbon dioxide. Peritoneal inflammation and open surgery Background Animal studies have shown that peritoneal injury can be minimized by insufflating the abdominal cavity with warm ...

Role of diagnostic laparoscopy in patients with suspicion of colorectal peritoneal metastases to evaluate suitability for cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 3, Issue 6, Page 812-821, December 2019., 2019
Diagnostic laparoscopy in the preoperative workup for cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy is feasible and safe in patients with suspicion of colorectal peritoneal metastases (PM). Characterization of a novel LEDs device prototype for neonatal jaundice and its comparison with fluorescent lamps sources: Photpublisher‐idapy treatment of hyperbilirubinemia in Wistar rats

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, Volume 23, Issue 5-6, Page 243-255, 2009., 2009
This work describes experimental tests done using the LED‐therapy equipment developed for neonatal jaundice treatment. Neonatal photpublisher‐idapy consists in the irradiation of jaundice new‐born with a high intensity light, in the spectral range of 400–500 nm, in order to promote the photochemical transformation of the bilirubin molecules in the ...
