LARGE EDDY SIMULATION FOR TRANSESTERIFICATION OF WASTE VEGETABLE OIL

open access: yesInternational Islamic University Malaysia Engineering Journal, 2015
The paper provides detailed information involved in the numerical simulation of transesterification of waste vegetable oil (WVO).  The main objective of this work is to perform mixing study based on large eddy simulation particle image Velocimetry (LES ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Large-eddy simulation of flows over random urban-like obstacles

open access: yes, 2008
Further to our previous large-eddy simulation (LES) of flow over a staggered array of uniform cubes, a simulation of flow over random urban-like obstacles is presented. To gain a deeper insight into the effects of randomness in the obstacle topology, the

Large-eddy simulation of dispersion from surface sources in arrays of obstacles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Towards meeting the objective of simulating heat transfer processes in urban areas, the study of dispersion from a scalar (ground) surface area source has been addressed as a first step, as dispersion from such a source is in some ways analogous to heat ...

Multidimensional Cellular Micro‐Compartments to Model Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Dormancy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is an understudied subtype of breast cancer that is susceptible to late recurrences. In this study, micro‐compartmentalization techniques spanning multiple dimensions, including 2D, pseudo‐3D, and 3D, are integrated to uncover the mechanisms underlying ILC dormancy, revealing the central role of p27Kip1.

A Stochastic Approach for Parameterizing Unresolved Scales in a System with Memory

open access: yesJournal of Algorithms & Computational Technology, 2009
Complex systems display variability over a broad range of spatial and temporal scales. Some scales are unresolved due to computational limitations. The impact of these unresolved scales on the resolved scales needs to be parameterized or taken into ...

Numerical simulation of flow separation over a backward-facing step with high Reynolds number

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2019
Large eddy simulation (LES) explicitly calculates the large-scale vortex field and parameterizes the small-scale vortices. In this study, LES and κ-ε models were developed for a specific geometrical configuration of backward-facing step (BFS).

Implicit large eddy simulation of ship airwakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Implicit large eddy simulations (ILES) of two different Royal Navy ships have been conducted as part of the UK Ship/Air Interface Frame-work project using a recently developed very high order accuracy numerical method.

Large-Eddy Simulation and experimental study of cycle-to-cycle variations of stable and unstable operating points in a spark ignition engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article presents a comparison between experiments and Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) of a spark ignition engine on two operating points: a stable one characterized by low cycle-to-cycle variations (CCV) and an unstable one with high CCV.

A Systematic Study of GelMA‐Carbopol Bioinks for High‐Fidelity Extrusion 3D Bioprinting at Physiological Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gonzalez Martinez and collaborators develop a strategy to formulate high performance GelMA‐based bioinks with low solids contents. The resulting bioinks enable 3D bioprinting at 37 °C of high‐fidelity structures with tunable mechanical properties that support high cell viability and function.
