Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Inhibition of ZEB1 by miR-200 characterizes Helicobacter pylori-positive gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with a less aggressive behavior

open access: yes, 2017
Primary gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphomas may or may not have a concurrent component of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma/mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphomas are often associated with Helicobacter ...

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Autocrine glutamate signaling drives cell competition in Drosophila.

open access: yes
Cell competition is an evolutionarily conserved quality control process that eliminates suboptimal or potentially dangerous cells. Although differential metabolic states act as direct drivers of competition, how these are measured across tissues is not ...

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

BRIDGING TO TRANSPLANT IN DIFFUSE LARGE B CELL LYMPHOMA

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal Hematology, 2016
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is the eighth most common malignancy worldwide. Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most frequent subtype, accounting for >30% of NHL cases.

Exposure to propylparaben induces craniofacial bone developmental toxicity through ROS-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Propylparaben (PrP) is an extensively utilized antimicrobial preservative in food industry, cosmetics, personal care products, and pharmaceuticals. Nevertheless, the toxicological effects of PrP on animals are still not well characterized. In this study,

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...
