The Cold Jupiter Eccentricity Distribution is Consistent with EKL Driven by Stellar Companions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The large eccentricities of cold Jupiters and the existence of hot Jupiters have long challenged theories of planet formation. A proposed solution to both of these puzzles is high-eccentricity migration, in which an initially cold Jupiter is excited to ...

Orbital evolution with white-dwarf kicks

open access: yes, 2007
Recent observations of white dwarfs in globular clusters indicate that these stars may get a velocity kick during their time as giants. This velocity kick could originate naturally if the mass loss while on the asymptotic giant branch is slightly ...

FLEXURAL BEHAVIOR OF PC GIRDERS WITH LARGE ECCENTRIC EXTERNAL TENDONS

open access: yesDoboku Gakkai Ronbunshu, 2002

Binary Encounters With Supermassive Black Holes: Zero-Eccentricity LISA Events

open access: yes, 2005
Current simulations of the rate at which stellar-mass compact objects merge with supermassive black holes (called extreme mass ratio inspirals, or EMRIs) focus on two-body capture by emission of gravitational radiation.

The morphology of the oval window in Paranthropus robustus compared to humans and other modern primates

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The oval window (OW) is an opening connecting the inner and middle ear. Its area has been shown to consistently scale with body mass (BM) in primates, and has been used alongside semi‐circular canal (SCC) size to differentiate Homo sapiens and fossil hominins, including Paranthropus robustus.

System Size and Energy Dependence of Elliptic Flow

open access: yes, 2006
The elliptic flow v2 is presented for the Cu+Cu collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 62.4 and 200 GeV, as a function of pseudorapidity. Comparison to results for the Au+Au collisions at the same energies shows a reduction of about 20% in the flow observed for a ...

A critical reappraisal of the carotid sinus and carotid bulb: Distinguishing neurohistological function from vascular geometry

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
This review redefines the carotid bulb (CB) as a variable geometric dilation shaped by hemodynamics and the carotid sinus (CS) as a conserved neurohistological baroreceptor field. Distinguishing these entities clarifies a century of anatomical confusion and links geometry, neurohistology, and clinical interpretation within a unified framework ...

Performance prediction and optimization of nanolubricants for hydrodynamic journal bearings: a data-driven approach for regulating volumetric fraction and aggregate particle size

open access: yesCogent Engineering
This study aims to set up a data-driven framework for optimization and performance prediction of a nanolubricant. Isoviscous approximation was applied to simplify analytical results. FDM methods were used to generate 1204 data points.
