On the Download Alleviation for the XV-15 Wing by Active Flow Control Using Large-Eddy Simulation

open access: yes, 2008
The flow around a XV-15 wing with and without active flow control (AFC) is investigated using large-eddy simulation (LES).

Comparative Performance Analysis of Various Flat Plate Solar Collectors Incorporating Spiral and Square Arrangement of Circular Type Riser Tube

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Three flat‐plate collectors with spiral and square coiled riser tubes were tested and it was found that the spiral type provides the best results with a thermal efficiency of 66.98% for a mass flow rate of 0.4 kg/min. Riser tube geometry is a key factor in optimizing flat‐plate collector output.

Forced Draught Impact on Externally Venting Flames: An Experimental and Numerical Investigation

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wind can significantly influence fire development and spread in urban and forest environments causing fatal consequences for the public, the first responders, and the environment. Wind‐driven fires can have a significant impact on structural fires as wind can increase the fire's intensity, development, and flame spread.

Experimental Assessment of ‘subgrid’ scale Probability Density Function Models for Large Eddy Simulation

open access: yes, 2012
Filtered density functions (FDFs) of mixture fraction are quantified by analyzing experimental data obtained from two-dimensional planar laser-induced fluorescence scalar measurements in the isothermal swirling flow of a combustor operating at a ...

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Cedar Façade Flame Spread With Respect to Sidewall

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In response to growing energy conservation and carbon neutrality efforts, façade systems incorporating wooden materials have attracted increasing attention, which in turn raises concerns about their combustibility. This study presents a combined experimental and numerical investigation of flame spread along cedar façades.

Large-eddy simulation of flow over a circular cylinder in the sub-critical regime

open access: yes, 2017
We present wall-resolved, large-eddy simulation (LES) of flow over a circular cylinder up to ReD = 105, based on the cylinder diameter D, in the subcritical regime.
