Performance of Large Intelligent Surfaces in Multiuser Millimeter Wave MIMO-NOMA Systems
Large Intelligent Surfaces (LIS) are considered a candidate technology for 6G networks due to its simple deployment and relatively low cost. Recently, Millimeter Wave (mmWave) communication has attracted much attention due to its huge spectrum resources (

Holographic MIMO Communications Exploiting the Orbital Angular Momentum
This study delves into the potential of harnessing the orbital angular momentum (OAM) property of electromagnetic waves in near-field and line-of-sight scenarios by utilizing large intelligent surfaces, in the context of holographic multiple-input ...

Near- and Far-Field Communications with Large Intelligent Surfaces [PDF]
This paper studies the uplink spectral efficiency (SE) achieved by two single-antenna user equipments (UEs) communicating with a Large Intelligent Surface (LIS), defined as a planar array consisting of $N$ antennas that each has area $A$. The analysis is carried out with a deterministic line-of-sight propagation channel model that captures key ...

Secrecy Analysis and Error Probability of LIS-Aided Communication Systems under Nakagami-m Fading
Large intelligent surfaces (LIS) are a new trend to achieve higher spectral efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio in mobile communications. For this reason, this paper proposes metrics to analyze the performance of systems with multiple antennas aided by ...

Localization and Discrete Beamforming with a Large Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface
In millimeter-wave (mmWave) cellular systems, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are foreseeably deployed with a large number of reflecting elements to achieve high beamforming gains. The large-sized RIS will make radio links fall in the near-field localization regime with spatial non-stationarity issues.

Design of Near-Field Beamforming for Large Intelligent Surfaces
In this paper, we propose a novel three-dimensional (3D) near-field beamforming (BF) design for Large Intelligent Surface (LIS). We firstly investigate the definitions of near-field and far-field of LIS, and derive the Fresnel near-field region where amplitudes variations are negligible and only phase variations worsen the harvested array-gains.

Bit Error Probability for Large Intelligent Surfaces Under Double-Nakagami Fading Channels
In this work, we investigate the probability distribution function of the channel fading between a base station, an array of intelligent reflecting elements, known as large intelligent surfaces (LIS), and a single-antenna user. We assume that both fading
