Mechanism of “seesaw‐type” rock burst in coal seam mining beneath mountainous areas

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study reveals the mechanism of “seesaw‐type” rock bursts during coal mining beneath mountainous areas. The advancing working face induces nonuniform fracturing of the overburden. The detached mountain mass then undergoes a seesaw‐type rotational movement around a shifting pivot, driving the primary fracture through a characteristic “open‐close ...

Modeling proppant transport and settling in a 3D propagating fracture

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A versatile multiphysics tool is presented for simulating the complex processes involved in hydraulic fracturing treatments. The model couples fracture opening and propagation, variable‐density slurry flow, and proppant particle transport within the multiphysics object‐oriented simulation environment framework, based on two‐phase mixture equations and ...

Dynamic prediction of coal and gas outburst risk based on quantitative analysis of stress–energy evolution and adaptive correction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study quantitatively analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution of stress redistribution ahead of the working face by integrating coal seam distribution, tectonic stress anomalies, gas pressure, and mining‐induced disturbances. An R‐value criterion for coal and gas outburst (CGO) risk assessment was established based on energy principles.

Developing a universal tunnel span classification from global tunnel databases

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A universal tunnel span classification system is introduced that incorporates tunnel span, cross‐sectional area, typical tunnel types, and intended uses. Representative flatness ratio values are also provided for each span class. The classification is derived from a comprehensive database of 450 tunnel profiles from 47 countries.

Overburden destruction structure model and mechanism of mine pressure in Caojiatan coal mine with 10 m super large mining height

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
The successful mining of 10 m ultra-high working face in Caojiatan coal mine marks a new level of full height mining technology in China’s extra-thick coal seam. Based on the pressure, displacement and energy sensors, the mining of ultra-high mining face is monitored comprehensively, the characteristics of mine pressure behavior were clarified, the law

Real‐time multiscale characterization of water migration in deep coal under stepwise pressure‐increasing injection: Combined low‐field nuclear magnetic resonance and multifractal approach

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract illustrates the real‐time multiscale characterization of water migration in deep coal under stepwise pressure‐increasing injection. Under in‐situ hydrostatic pressure, the water invasion front advances progressively along the axial direction as the injection pressure increases stepwise, tracked in real time by nuclear magnetic ...
