Large Misalignment between Stellar Bar and Dust Pattern in NGC 3488 Revealed by Spitzer and SDSS

open access: yes, 2007
A large position angle misalignment between the stellar bar and the distribution of dust in the late-type barred spiral NGC 3488 was discovered, using mid-infrared images from the Spitzer Space Telescope and optical images from the Sloan Digital Sky ...

Anharmonic Evolution of the Cosmic Axion Density Spectrum

open access: yes, 1994
We present analytic solutions to the spatially homogeneous axion field equation, using a model potential which strongly resembles the standard anharmonic $(1-\cos N\theta)$ potential, but contains only a piece-wise second order term.

A possible signature of Lense-Thirring precession in dipping and eclipsing neutron-star low-mass X-ray binaries

open access: yes, 2012
Relativistic Lense-Thirring precession of a tilted inner accretion disk around a compact object has been proposed as a mechanism for low-frequency (~0.01-70 Hz) quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in the light curves of X-ray binaries.

Bootstrapping the Coronal Magnetic Field with STEREO: I. Unipolar Potential Field Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the recently quantified misalignment of $\alpha_{mis} \approx 20^\circ-40^\circ$ between the 3-D geometry of stereoscopically triangulated coronal loops observed with STEREO/EUVI (in four active regions) and theoretical (potential or ...

Research on the Necessity of Lie Group Strapdown Inertial Integrated Navigation Error Model Based on Euler Angle

open access: yesSensors, 2022
In response to the lack of specific demonstration and analysis of the research on the necessity of the Lie group strapdown inertial integrated navigation error model based on the Euler angle, two common integrated navigation systems, strapdown inertial ...

Knowledge-Aided STAP Using Low Rank and Geometry Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents knowledge-aided space-time adaptive processing (KA-STAP) algorithms that exploit the low-rank dominant clutter and the array geometry properties (LRGP) for airborne radar applications.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

An Improved Limit on the Muon Electric Dipole Moment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Three independent searches for an electric dipole moment (EDM) of the positive and negative muons have been performed, using spin precession data from the muon g-2 storage ring at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.
