Preimaginal development of Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae) in brackish water gives rise to adult mosquitoes with thicker cuticles and greater insecticide resistance

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The principal arboviral vector Aedes aegypti can develop in coastal brackish water field habitats (0.5–15 g/L salt) with larvae possessing thicker cuticles and greater resistance to the larvicide Temephos. Females emerging from brackish water‐developing preimaginal stages are now shown to have thicker and remodelled leg and abdominal cuticles and ...

Transport of large woody debris in the presence of obstacles

Geomorphology, 2006
Flume experiments were carried out to investigate the motion of large woody debris (LWD) in rivers as influenced by the presence of obstacles. Non-rooted, defoliated LWD was modelled by placing properly scaled wooden dowels placed into controlled water flow.

Development of spatial pattern in large woody debris and debris dams in streams

Geomorphology, 2003
The spatial distribution of large woody debris (LWD) in streams was evaluated using Neighbor K statistics, following extensive wood deposition from an ice storm in the eastern Adirondack Mountains (New York). Two years after wood deposition, we surveyed individual pieces of LWD in one stream and surveyed debris dam locations in eight streams within the
