Assessment of patch quality by ladybirds: relative response to conspecific and heterospecific larval tracks a consequence of habitat similarity?

Chemoecology, 2006
Aphid colonies can reach high levels of abundance but last for short periods of time. The larvae of aphidophagous ladybirds (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) that feed on these colonies might therefore suffer from starvation, which favours the occurrence of cannibalism and intraguild predation. Thus, the assessment of patch quality becomes crucial and it has

Live tracking of extracellular vesicles in larval zebrafish

2020
Formerly considered as insignificant cell debris, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as potent mediators of cell-cell communication, both in proximity and at distance from the producing cell. EVs are transported in body fluids and can be internalized by specific distant cells to ultimately deliver a functional message.

Prey Tracking by Larval Zebrafish: Axial Kinematics and Visual Control

Brain, Behavior and Evolution, 2005
High-speed imaging was used to record the prey-tracking behavior of larval zebrafish as they fed upon paramecium. Prey tracking is comprised of a variable set of discrete locomotor movements that together align the larva with the paramecium and bring it into close proximity, usually within one body length.

Model sensitivity and robustness in the estimation of larval transport: A study of particle tracking parameters

Journal of Marine Systems, 2013
Abstract Many marine organisms spend their early lives as planktonic larvae dispersed by ocean currents. Predictions of larval transport are important for a wide range of applications including the interpretation of population genetics, fisheries management, and the planning of no-take marine protected areas.

Larval dispersal and mother populations of Pandalus borealis investigated by a Lagrangian particle-tracking model

Fisheries Research, 2003
Abstract Larval dispersal and spatial distribution of reproducing females of Pandalus borealis in the Barents Sea were investigated. The approach was based on particle tracking using flow fields and a biological model incorporating ontogenetic migration and temperature dependent development of the zoea stages.

Tracking larval insect movement within soil using high resolution X‐ray microtomography

Ecological Entomology, 2004
Abstract.  1. In contrast to above‐ground insects, comparatively little is known about the behaviour of subterranean insects, due largely to the difficulty of studying them in situ . 2. The movement of newly hatched

Environmental Variability Along The Drift Track Of Larval Haddock In The East Shetland Atlantic Inflow

1998
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. We evaluate whether regional circulation transports larval haddock into the northern North Sea and identified a mechanism which enables haddock larvae to enter water masses whose plankton production rates can potentially support high larval feeding and growth rates.

Tracking Drosophila Larval Behavior in Response to Optogenetic Stimulation of Olfactory Neurons.

Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE, 2018
The ability of insects to navigate toward odor sources is based on the activities of their first-order olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs). While a considerable amount of information has been generated regarding ORN responses to odorants, the role of specific ORNs in driving behavioral responses remains poorly understood.

Tracking Larval, Newly Settled, and Juvenile Red Abalone (Haliotis rufescens) Recruitment in Northern California

Journal of Shellfish Research, 2016
ABSTRACT Recruitment is a central question in both ecology and fisheries biology. Little is known however about early life history stages, such as the larval and newly settled stages of marine invertebrates. No one has captured wild larval or newly settled red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) in California even though this species supports a recreational ...

Novel Visual Perspective for Tracking of Larval Development, Aging and Antiaging Drugs Screening by Fluorescent Sensing MsrA

Analytical Chemistry
Senescence is observed in various tissues during different physiological and pathological events such as tissue remodeling and disorders related aging. Senescent cells suffer from a decline in methionine sulfoxide reductase (MsrA), which is intimately linked to cell proliferation and longevity.
