Quantitative structure-activity relationships of benzoylphenylurea larvicides

Abstract The larvicidal activity of benzoylphenylureas with various multiple substitution patterns at the anilide moiety including chlorfluazuron and teflubenzuron was estimated against the rice stem borer, Chilo suppressalis , under conditions in which the oxidative metabolism was eliminated as far as possible by using piperonyl butoxide.

Abstract The inhibition by N-(2,6-disubstituted benzoyl)-N′-(4-substituted phenyl)urea larvicides of the incorporation of N-acetyl-[1-14C]glucosamine, the precursor of chitin, into cultured fragments of the integument of Chilo suppressalis Walker larvae was measured in terms of the median inhibitory concentration with and without metabolic inhibitors.

Larvicidal activity of Cybistax antisyphilitica against Aedes aegypti larvae

The larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae of a stem wood hexane extract of Cybistax antisyphilitica was evaluated. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the crude extract, monitored by larvicidal assay, led to the isolation of a natural quinone identified as 2-hydroxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-1.4-naphthoquinone (lapachol).

Enzymatic activation of the Bacillus sphaericus mosquito larvicidal toxin

Bacillus sphaericus insecticidal toxin was activated by trypsin, α-chymotrypsin, and mosquito gut homogenates to a form which was cytotoxic to cultured mosquito cells. Gut extracts from highly resistant Aedes aegypti larvae were as effective in activating this toxin as extracts from the highly sensitive species Culex quinquefasciatus.
