Mosquito larvicidal and antimicrobial activity of protein of Solanum villosum leaves [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2008
Abstract Background Mosquitoes are associated with the transmission of malaria, dengue, Japanese encephalitis, filariasis and other viral diseases throughout the globe, apart from being a nuisance pest. Biological control alone or as a part of integrated vector management stands to be a better alternative to the ...

Larvicidal Activity of Tagetes erecta Against Aedes aegypti

open access: yesJournal of the American Mosquito Control Association, 2011
The aim of this study was to evaluate the activity of essential oil from Tagetes erecta against 3rd instars of Aedes aegypti and to determine the amounts of larvicidal thiophenes in all plant tissues. The oil obtained by steam distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry showed 14 compounds.

Validation of a novel bioassay method for the evaluation of the activity of slow‐acting insecticides on tomato borer Phthorimaea absoluta

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Extended bioassays revealed that azadirachtin and spirotetramat show strong delayed effects against Phthorimaea absoluta, underestimated by the standard Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) method 022 protocol. Incorporating long‐term exposures is essential to accurately assess slow‐acting insecticides and improve resistance management ...
