Evaluation of Laryngeal Cartilages by Computed Tomography

Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 1979
Computed tomography of the larynx was performed in 21 patients and 3 anatomic specimens for evaluation of laryngeal cancer. Special attention was directed to the appearance of the laryngeal cartilages in both the normal and abnormal examinations in order to establish criteria for cancerous invasion.

TUMOR INVOLVING THE LARYNGEAL CARTILAGES

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1954
HYALINE cartilage is a form of firm connective tissue which is sparsely supplied with blood and lymph vessels. Since metastases are spread by the blood stream and lymphatics, one would not expect to find metastatic tumor in such tissue. The cartilages of the larynx are of the hyaline variety, which may be transformed into bone.

Glottic reconstruction by implant of homologous laryngeal cartilages

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1993
This paper describes a case of reconstructive laryngectomy in a patient with epidermoid carcinoma of the glottis. Reconstruction of the skeletal laryngeal architecture was carried out by implanting homologous cartilages, whilst the glottis was reconstructed with sternohyoid muscle. Laryngeal function was restored within 30 days of the operation.

Anatomical routes for cancer invasion of laryngeal cartilages

The Laryngoscope, 1982
AbstractThe larynx is separated into compartments bounded by connective tissue membranes and cartilages. The membranes and cartilages affect the localization and spread of cancer for a while, but invasion eventually occurs. Histological study of the cartilages in the earliest stages of invasion shows cancer cells growing between the collagen bundles ...

Ossification of the Laryngeal Cartilages as it Relates to Computed Tomography

Investigative Radiology, 1982
Ossification of adult laryngeal cartilages was studied using cross sections cut in planes parallel to those used in computed tomography (CT). The percentage of ossification of surfaces of thyroid laminae was calculated and marked variations were found.

The soft tissue/cartilage relationship in the laryngeal glottis

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1981
A study of 93 larynges obtained at autopsy was made with regard to the proportion of cartilage and soft tissue in the glottis. The relevant measurements showed that the cartilage formed 48 per cent of the glottic opening and soft tissue (vibrating portion of the vocal cord) formed 52 per cent.

Laryngeal Osteoblastoma: Unusual Location in Arytenoid Cartilage

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2020
Abstract Osteoblastoma is a benign bone tumor with a slow growing and local aggressive nature. This tumor type is usually localized in the cervical vertebra and rarely involves laryngeal cartilage structures. Very few osteoblastoma cases have been reported in the literature.

The Pattern of Ossification in the Laryngeal Cartilages: A Radiological Study

The British Journal of Radiology, 1965
1. A series of 516 unselected radiographs of the neck was analysed from the standpoint of laryngeal ossification. 2. The pattern of ossification within the laryngeal cartilages is described and its implications discussed. 3. Sites of ossification likely to be confused with a foreign body are indicated and the special patterns of ossification in these ...

Cartilage Involvement in Laryngeal Carcinoma

Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 1984
Fifteen patients with laryngeal epidermoid carcinoma underwent CT of the larynx prior to surgery. Whole mount sections of the extirpated larynx cut in the horizontal plane were compared with the corresponding level of the preoperative CT sections. This study in particular was designed to evaluate the accuracy of diagnosing cartilage involvement by CT ...
