A laryngeal mask is a very useful instrument to use both in easy as well as difficult handling situations related to the air tract. This mask is placed in the pharynx and it permits a patient to breathe in different modes, either spontaneously or mechanically. Different models are available; some even facilitate the tracheal intubation through the mask.

Intubating Laryngeal Mask Airway
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, 2002The Intubating Laryngeal Mask Airway (ILMA) was introduced into clinical practice in 1997 following numerous clinical trials involving 1110 patients. The success rate of blind intubation via the device after two attempts is 88% in “routine” cases. Successful intubation in a variety of difficult airway scenarios, including awake intubation, has been ...

Blindly inserted in an anaesthetized patient, without either a laryngoscope or neuromuscular blockade, it ...
