Nanoplastic hydrophobicity drives adverse effects in the lung. Single intratracheal administration of poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐alcohol) nanoplastics with varying surface hydrophobicity shows that the more hydrophobic nanoplastics increase prevalence of coarsely vacuolated alveolar macrophages, induce transient respiratory inflammation and mild collagen ...

Laryngeal mass induced severe ventilatory impairment during induction of anesthesia
A 77-year-old man with laryngeal cancer was scheduled for total laryngectomy and lymph node dissection surgery under general anesthesia. The patient did not present with airway obstruction signs, including dyspnea or wheezing sounds during spontaneous ...

Augmentation laryngoplasty: Results and decision plan
Abstract Objectives Augmentation laryngoplasty represents a therapeutic choice for patients who suffer from glottic insufficiency of different etiologies. There have been multiple injectables that have been proven effective. The present study examines the short‐term effects of vocal fold augmentation on phonation, swallowing, and breathing in ...

Updates in neonatal resuscitation: routine use of laryngeal masks as an alternative to face masks [PDF]
Although positive-pressure ventilation (PPV) has traditionally been performed using a face mask in neonatal resuscitation, face mask ventilation for delivering PPV has a high failure rate due to mask leaks, airway obstruction, or gastric inflation ...

Semi-Automated Nasal PAP Mask Sizing using Facial Photographs [PDF]
We present a semi-automated system for sizing nasal Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) masks based upon a neural network model that was trained with facial photographs of both PAP mask users and non-users. It demonstrated an accuracy of 72% in correctly sizing a mask and 96% accuracy sizing to within 1 mask size group.

Bedside intubation of a child with a difficult airway—The otolaryngologist perspective
Abstract Objectives Children with a difficult airway are prone to severe complications in unplanned intubation events. The otolaryngologist is often required to secure the airway using advanced techniques once the traditional methods have failed to establish safe tracheal intubation.

Difficult fiberoptic tracheal intubation in 1 month-old infant with Treacher Collins Syndrome
Neonates and small infants with craniofacial malformation may be very difficult or impossible to mask ventilate or intubate. We would like to report the fiberoptic intubation of a small infant with Treacher Collins Syndrome using the technique described ...

Evaluation of automated airway morphological quantification for assessing fibrosing lung disease [PDF]
Abnormal airway dilatation, termed traction bronchiectasis, is a typical feature of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Volumetric computed tomography (CT) imaging captures the loss of normal airway tapering in IPF. We postulated that automated quantification of airway abnormalities could provide estimates of IPF disease extent and severity.
