Severe bradycardia during suspension laryngoscopy performed after tracheal intubation using a direct laryngoscope with a curved blade -A case report- [PDF]

open access: goldKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2010
There are a few reports about bradycardia or asystole caused by direct laryngoscopy. However, we encountered severe bradycardia in response to suspension laryngoscopy for laryngeal polypectomy after safely completing tracheal intubation using a direct ...

Comparison of Haemodynamic Response to Endotracheal Intubation with Videolaryngoscopy and Direct Laryngoscopy in Hypertensive Patients- A Randomised Clinical Trial [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2022
Introduction: Cardiovascular responses to direct laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation have been well documented and are caused by noxious stimuli. A videolaryngoscope facilitates visualisation of the vocal cords with minimal stretch on the airways ...

A systematic review of meta-analyses comparing direct laryngoscopy with videolaryngoscopy

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anesthesia/Journal canadien d'anesthésie, 2021
In the preceding 20 years, many randomized-controlled trials and meta-analyses have compared direct Macintosh laryngoscopy with videolaryngoscopy. The videolaryngoscope blades have included both traditional Macintosh blades and hyperangulated blades ...

Advances in laryngoscopy: rigid indirect laryngoscopy [PDF]

open access: yesF1000 Medicine Reports, 2010
There is a growing body of evidence to support the use of rigid indirect laryngoscopy or 'video' laryngoscopy for tracheal intubation. We summarise some of the key issues, comparing rigid indirect laryngoscopy with direct conventional laryngoscopy.

Complications after medullary thyroid carcinoma surgery: multicentre study of the SQRTPA and EUROCRINE® databases

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study investigated postoperative complications after surgery for medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in Europe. Hypoparathyroidism, recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy and bleeding requiring reoperation occurred in 170 (26·2 per cent), 62 (13·7 per cent) and 17 (2·6 per cent) patients respectively.

Contact force exerted on the maxillary incisors by direct laryngoscopy with Macintosh and McGrath video laryngoscopy

open access: yesBali Journal of Anesthesiology, 2020
During laryngoscopy the laryngoscope blade occasionally comes in contact with the teeth. In this case series, we described the measured force exerted on the maxillary incisors on ten patients undergoing general anesthesia requiring tracheal intubation ...

Development and validation of a difficult laryngoscopy prediction model using machine learning of neck circumference and thyromental height

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2021
Background Predicting difficult airway is challengeable in patients with limited airway evaluation. The aim of this study is to develop and validate a model that predicts difficult laryngoscopy by machine learning of neck circumference and thyromental ...

Economic analysis of the use of video laryngoscopy versus direct laryngoscopy in the surgical setting.

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Effectiveness Research, 2021
Aim: Compared with direct laryngoscopy (DL), video laryngoscopy (VL) offers clinical benefits in routine and difficult airways. The health economic benefit of VL versus DL for routine tracheal intubation remains unknown.

Video Laryngoscopy Compared to Augmented Direct Laryngoscopy in Adult Emergency Department Tracheal Intubations: A National Emergency Airway Registry (NEAR) Study.

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, 2020
OBJECTIVE The objective was to compare first-attempt intubation success using direct laryngoscopy augmented by laryngeal manipulation, ramped patient positioning, and use of a bougie (A-DL) with unaided video laryngoscopy (VL) in adult emergency ...

Haemodynamic response to endotracheal intubation in coronary artery disease: Direct versus video laryngoscopy

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2011
Endotracheal intubation involving conventional laryngoscopy elicits a haemodynamic response associated with increased heart and blood pressure. The study was aimed to see if video laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation has any advantages over ...
