Lasalocid in Prevention of Turkey Coccidiosis
Lasalocid was tested at graded feed concentrations in controlled battery experiments against single and mixed Eimeria species infections in 2-week-old turykey poults. Eimeria meleagrimitis, E. gallopavonis, E. adenoeides, and E. dispersa infected poults medicated with lasalocid at concentrations of 0.15, .0125, .01, .0075, and .005% were heavier ...

Assessment of the feed additive consisting of Enterococcus lactisDSM 10663 NCIMB 10415 (Oralin®) for calves for rearing, piglets, chickens for fattening, turkeys for fattening, cats and dogs for the renewal of its authorisation (Chevita Tierarzneimittel GmbH). [PDF]
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the assessment of the application for renewal of authorisation of the additive Oralin®, a preparation containing viable cells of Enterococcus lactis DSM 10663 (formerly identified as Enterococcus faecium), as a zootechnical feed additive for ...

Four isomeric homologs of lasalocid A have been isolated from cultures of Streptomyces lasaliensis. The homologs each arise by replacement of one of the four propionate derived methyls in lasalocid A by an ethyl group, which results in each homolog molecule containing four C-ethyls.

The biosynthesis of lasalocid A (formerly antibiotic X-537 A) in cultures of Strepto-myces lasaliensis has been studied using 13C- and 14C-labelled precursors. The antibiotic is derived from five acetate, four propionate and three butyrate units. This study has provided the first illustration of an ethyl group arising from butyrate and 2-ethylmalonate.

Influence of Ionophore Supplementation on Growth Performance, Dietary Energetics and Carcass Characteristics in Finishing Cattle during Period of Heat Stress [PDF]
Forty-eight crossbred heifers (378.1±18 kg) were used in a 56-d feeding trial (four pens per treatment in a randomised complete block design) to evaluate the influence of ionophore supplementation on growth performance, dietary energetics and carcass ...

Cylinder Plate Assay for Lasalocid Sodium
Abstract A microbiological assay method is described for the determination of the coccidiostat lasalocid sodium in premixes and finished poultry feeds. Premixes are extracted with absolute methanol and diluted to assay range with 25% methanol in the final dilution.
