Fibre Bragg grating fabrication in germanosilicate fibres with 244nm femtosecond laser light

open access: yes, 2006
The ability to fabricate strong and extraordinarily stable Bragg gratings in any type of fibre using femtosecond laser light has attracted much interest in the recent past. The induced index change has been attributed to glass densification brought about

Molecular Species Formation in Laser‐Produced Plasma

open access: yes, 2023
Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) utilized laser-induced transient plasma (LIP) as a sampling and emission source, which is formed by focusing intense laser pulses having irradiance higher than the ablation or plasma formation threshold of the ...

Influence of TiC and TiN Ceramic Reinforcements on the Microstructure, Thermal Expansion Behavior, and Tensile Properties of Invar 36 Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines Invar composites reinforced with titanium carbide (TiC) and titanium nitride (TiN) using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). It presents the influence of reinforcements on microstructure, tensile properties, and thermal expansion. Results show that TiC effectively strengthens Invar while maintaining low thermal expansion, whereas TiN ...

High‐Entropy Alloy Interlayers Toward Advanced Joining for High‐Performance Structural Applications: Current Progress and Emerging Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
HEA interlayers offer a versatile route for joining high‐performance structural materials. Their compositional and structural design regulates interfacial reactions, suppresses brittle IMCs, and improves metallurgical bonding. Sandwich interlayers further integrate defect healing with precipitation strengthening, enabling improved strength–ductility ...

Shock Waves in Laser-Induced Plasmas

open access: yesAtoms, 2019
The production of a plasma by a pulsed laser beam in solids, liquids or gas is often associated with the generation of a strong shock wave, which can be studied and interpreted in the framework of the theory of strong explosion.

Possible explanations for different surface quality in laser cutting with 1 micron and 10 microns beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In laser cutting of thick steel sheets, quality difference is observed between cut surfaces obtained with 1 micron and 10 micron laser beams. This paper investigates physical mechanisms for this interesting and important problem of the wavelength ...

A Novel Approach to Estimate the Transition Temperature via Dynamic Nanoindentation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new dynamic nanoindentation‐based method was developed that uses the stiffness ratio as an indicator of the elastic–plastic deformation contributions at different temperatures. The approach successfully identified transition temperatures in ferritic steel and distinguished them from continuously ductile austenitic steel.

Depth resolved analysis of hydrogen in W7-X graphite components using laser-induced ablation-quadrupole mass spectrometry (LIA-QMS)

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2019
A deep understanding of the plasma-wall interaction processes in fusion devices like Wendelstein 7-X is necessary for an efficient plasma operation and a long lifetime of the plasma-facing components. In this work we present an approach employing residual

Trace Element Analysis of Chlorine by Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In order to study the applicability of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to pollution measurement the emission spectrum of chlorine from a laser-generated plasma of CHCIF2 in air was investigated.
