Testing of Airborne Laser Altimetry Sensors
2018 5th IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace), 2018This paper synthesizes the results of the mechanical shock, vibration and temperature tests that have been executed in order to verify the performance characteristics of the device under test (D UT) in environmental conditions representative of those which may be encountered during the operation of the equipment.

A super-resolution laser altimetry concept
SPIE Proceedings, 2011A super-resolution laser altimetry technique has been proposed to provide improved lidar altimetry from Cloud Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation(CALIPSO) lidar data, and it is applicable to other similar atmospheric profiling lidar with low-pass filters.

The ICESat-2 Laser Altimetry Mission
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2010Satellite and aircraft observations have revealed that remarkable changes in the Earth's polar ice cover have occurred in the last decade. The impacts of these changes, which include dramatic ice loss from ice sheets and rapid declines in Arctic sea ice, could be quite large in terms of sea level rise and global climate.

The Geoscience Laser Altimetry/Ranging System
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1987The Geoscience Laser Altimetry/Ranging System (GLARS) is a planned highly precise laser distance-measuring system to be used for geoscience measurements requiring extremely accurate geodetic observations from a space platform. The system combines the attributes of a pointable laser ranging system making observations to retroreflectors placed on the ...

Space-based laser altimeters are effective in providing topographic measurements critically important to the understanding of the formation and early evolution of planetary bodies. Using laser altimetry data, topographic grids can be produced that provide significant insight into the shape, internal structure and evolution of the subject body.

ICESat Full-Waveform Altimetry Compared to Airborne Laser Scanning Altimetry Over The Netherlands
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2009Since 2003, the full-waveform laser altimetry system onboard NASA's Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) has acquired a worldwide elevation database. ICESat data are widely applied for change detection of ice sheet mass balance, forest structure estimation, and digital terrain model generation of remote areas.

Lunar laser altimetry in the SELENE project
Advances in Space Research, 1999Abstract Lunar laser altimeter (LALT) has been developed for the Japanese lunar exploration SELENE (SELenological and ENgineering Explorer) in 2003. Lunar laser altimetry and two other selenodetic missions are put together and called RISE (Researches In SElenodesy) project that has been developed mainly by National Astronomical Observatory of Japan ...
