Laser altimetry and lidar from ICESat/GLAS
IGARSS 2001. Scanning the Present and Resolving the Future. Proceedings. IEEE 2001 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Cat. No.01CH37217), 2002In December 2001, a spaceborne laser altimeter will be launched into a near-polar, near-circular orbit to measure changes in polar ice-sheet topography, as well as along-track land and ocean topography. The ice-sheet measurements will address fundamental questions about the growth or shrinkage of the polar ice-sheets and their contribution to current ...

Laser altimetry and terrain analysis: A revolution in geomorphology
GIM International, 2008Terrain analysis in geomorphology has undergone a serious quantitative revolution over recent decades. Lidar information has been efficiently used to automatically classify discrete landforms, map forest structures, and provide input for models simulating landscape development, e.g. channel incision development and rock-fall processes.

Extracting tides from laser altimetry observations: a global approach
2020Measurements of planetary solid body tides provide crucial constraints on the interior structure, and thereby the formation and thermal evolution, of planets and satellites. The tidal Love number h2 describes the radial surface displacement due to tides.

Assessing height precision of laser altimetry dems
2002The new Dutch national digital elevation model (DEM), acquired with laser altimetry, is almost complete. The Dutch Survey Department fulfils an intermediary function between laser data suppliers and final users of the DEM. One of the most important tasks of the Survey Department is to guarantee the quality of the delivered laser DEMs to the users.
