Measurement of laser beam spatial profile by laser scanning

European Journal of Physics, 2020
Abstract In several undergraduate courses related to laser physics and optics it is crucial that students should be able to understand basic concepts of laser beam propagation. In addition, experimental activities focusing on capability building in photogrammetry and remote sensing technologies are considered essential for ...

Laser beam profiling by waveguide technique

2010 Academic Symposium on Optoelectronics and Microelectronics Technology and 10th Chinese-Russian Symposium on Laser Physics and Laser TechnologyOptoelectronics Technology (ASOT), 2010
The resonant prism-coupling technique for measuring of light beam intensity distribution is presented. This approach is based on recording of the angular dependence of intensity of the reflected laser beam in the case of excitation of guided mode in testing thin-film structure.

Gaussian laser beam profile shaping

Optical Engineering, 1996
A method for converting single-mode Gaussian beams into beams with uniform irradiance profiles is described. The design is based on a Fourier transform relation between the input and output beam functions. The efficacy of the solution is shown to depend on a parameter that contains the product of the widths of the input and output beams.

Intensity Profiling The Ultraviolet Laser Beam

SPIE Proceedings, 1989
Many applications of ultraviolet (UV) lasers would be greatly facilitated if the designers and users of associated optical systems could characterize the beams as to location, size, shape and intensity distribution at selected points along the optical path.

Electronic laser beam profile measurement

SPIE Proceedings, 1998
Because the spatial beam structure is the most critical element of a laser, measurement of this beam structure is indispensable in laser design, development, and manufacture. Since measurement of the beam structure inside the cavity is impractical, if not impossible, the beam profile structure outside the laser provides the only real insight into ...

Mitigating the relativistic laser beam filamentation via an elliptical beam profile

Physical Review E, 2015
It is shown that the filamentation instability of relativistically intense laser pulses in plasmas can be mitigated in the case where the laser beam has an elliptically distributed beam profile. A high-power elliptical Gaussian laser beam would break up into a regular filamentation pattern-in contrast to the randomly distributed filaments of a ...

Spatial evolution of laser beam profiles in an SBS amplifier

Applied Optics, 1989
We have performed an experimental and theoretical analysis of the modification of the transverse structure of a probe beam on propagation through an SBS amplifier. The theoretical analysis is based on performing a mode decomposition of the incident fields and determining how each mode amplitude is modified as a result of the nonlinear coupling. For the

Laser beam intensity profile transformation with a fabricated mirror

Applied Optics, 1997
A nonaxisymmetric mirror is designed by the same method as a computer-generated hologram for laser beam intensity profile transformation and is fabricated by plasma chemical vaporization machining. We successfully transformed a circular Gaussian beam of a He-Ne laser into a rectangular uniform beam maintaining spatial coherence and using a ...

Laser beam profile measurement by photothermal deflection technique

Applied Optics, 1986
Laser beam profiles are measured using the photothermal deflection technique in an absorbing gas. The method is based on the change of the index of refraction due to laser-radiation heating. (AIP)

Transformation of a laser beam intensity profile by a deformable mirror

Optics Letters, 1996
We developed a deformable mirror with nine actuators for transformation of a laser beam intensity profile. A circular-cross-section Gaussian beam was successfully transformed into a rectangular-cross-section beam by the deformable mirror with conservation of spatial coherency.
