High quality laser beam soldering

Microsystem Technologies, 2002
In the work presented the potential of a pyrometric process control during laser beam soldering will be enhanced. Primarily we have developed a processing head with an integrated up-to-date pyrometric sensor conditioned for the temperature range of soft soldering.

Beam quality of annular lasers

SPIE Proceedings, 2002
The power in the bucket (PIB) and (beta) -parameter are chosen as criteria for characterizing the laser beam quality in the far field, the beam quality of annular lasers with or without phase distributions is studied in detail. It is shown that the better focusability is achieved at the real focal plane, and a suitable choice of negative phase ...

Beam quality enhancement for unconventional laser formats

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
In this paper we review the general problem of Optical Beam Quality for beams that are not simple axial symmetricgaussian beams. We discuss the theoretical studies and experimental results obtained on the beams emitted by compact, medium power, diffusion cooled CO2 lasers and laser arrays.

Laser beam quality characterization

SPIE Proceedings, 1998
The demands on the quality of laser beams are becoming much greater. Traditional methods of measuring laser intensity profile such as burn spots, mode burns, and viewing the reflected beam, are woefully inadequate for today's applications. The increasingly high quality of lasers is to a large extent due to the availability of electronic beam profile ...

Laser beam quality measurements

Proceedings of LFNM'2001. 3rd International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling (Cat. No.01EX463), 2002
Usually a laser beam is a mixture of Hermite-Gauss or Laguerre-Gauss modes. These beams don't change their shape when propagating through first order optics. Then kurtosis, on-axis intensity, and Strehl ratio will be invariant or dependent on main parameters such as widths and areas.

Laser Accelerated, High Quality Ion Beams

Hyperfine Interactions, 2006
Intense beams of protons and heavy ions have been observed in ultra-intense laser-solid interaction experiments. Thereby, a considerable fraction of the laser energy is transferred to collimated beams of energetic ions (e.g. up to 50 MeV protons; 100 MeV fluorine), which makes these beams highly interesting for various applications.

Beam quality in monomode diode lasers

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1992
An analytic and measurable beam parameter is defined for beams emerging from heterojunction monomode diode lasers with very thin active layers, which provides a joint description of their focusing capabilities and far field divergence behaviour. This parameter can be of use as a figure of merit to compare either the output responses of this type of ...

Comparison of laser beam quality criteria

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Nowadays the power of lasers with diffraction beam quality is on significant rise. But it is not easy to achieve ideal quality because of severe undesired distortions. Under different forms of distortion the beam shows different behavior. With any form of distortions there is the need to qualitatively characterize the beam quality.

Phase perturbations and laser resonator beam quality

Applied Optics, 1984
This work combines phase perturbation techniques with resonator oscillation formalism to describe the effect of the perturbation on the beam quality of the laser radiation field. The scattering terms of the perturbation are computed to the second order and are used to determine the mode intensity ratios (MIR) and the Strehl ratios.
