Laser welding beam quality calibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The relationship of beam quality and weld depth of penetration was studied to attempt to better quantify the operation of CO{sub 2} laser beam welders. Equipment to measure laser beam quality was obtained. The equipment was calibrated using standard apertures.

Line spread instrumentation for propagation measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A line spread device capable of yielding direct measure of a laser beam's line spread function (LSF) was developed and employed in propagation tests conducted in a wind tunnel to examine optimal acoustical suppression techniques for laser cavities ...

Drive laser system for the DC-SRF photoinjector at Peking University

open access: yes, 2015
Photoinjectors are widely used for linear accelerators as electron sources to generate high-brightness electron beam. Drive laser, which determines the timing structure and quality of the electron beam, is a crucial device of photoinjector.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Tunable high-energy ion source via oblique laser pulse incidence on a double-layer target

open access: yes, 2007
The laser-driven acceleration of high quality proton beams from a double-layer target, comprised of a high-Z ion layer and a thin disk of hydrogen, is investigated with three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations in the case of oblique incidence of a ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Radiation pressure acceleration of high-quality ion beams using ultrashort laser pulses

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
The generation of compact, high-energy ion beams is one of the most promising applications of intense laser-matter interactions, but the control of the beam spectral quality remains an outstanding challenge.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Mode-Modulation Structure Based on 650 nm Ridge Waveguide Edge-Emitting Laser

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Traditional laser diodes operating at 650 nm are more prone to high-order mode excitation, resulting in poorer beam quality. In this paper, we designed GaInP–AlGaInP laser diodes (LD) with a 650 nm range and a trench mode-modulation structure based on ...
