Laser applications to communication
Zeitschrift für angewandte Mathematik und Physik ZAMP, 1965This short review has shown the existence of several serious uncertainties on actual possibilities of long-distance laser communication systems. We must however point out that lasers only appeared a few years ago and that notwithstanding the great effort going on in many laboratories, many aspects of the problems concerning the application of laser to ...

Coherent Nd:Yag Laser Communications
SPIE Proceedings, 1987The majority of today's optical communication systems employ non-coherent detection or what is commonly referred to as direct detection. However, recent advances in technology have made the concept of coherent optical detection feasible. A properly designed coherent system can offer a significant improvement in receiver sensitivity.

Submarine Laser Communication Uplinks
Lasers, Sources and Related Photonic Devices, 2010Paper discusses SLC uplink design trade-offs and compares uplinks with downlinks. Modulation formats, receivers, transmitter and optical filters for uplinks are discussed. Uplink radiance profiles under various environmental conditions are determined.

Laser Satellite Communication Systems
2009Overview: In this chapter we consider statistical quantities introduced in Chaps. 6-9 and adapt them to vertical and slant path propagation links. Most of the analysis presented here is for a slant path connecting a satellite in geostationary orbit and a ground or airborne platform.
