Laser hot-wire welding for minimizing defects
ICALEO 2004: 23rd International Congress on Laser Materials Processing and Laser Microfabrication, 2004The objective of laser hot-wire welding is to provide a low heat input procedure which could minimize defects in crack sensitive supper alloys and increase over all deposition rates in cladding operations. Another potential benefit of laser hot-wire welding is that thermal distortion effect are greatly reduced.

Experimental and numerical investigation of laser hot wire welding
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015With respect to autogenous laser welding, laser welding assisted by a hot wire was capable of saving the consumption of laser power, tailoring the mechanical and physical properties of welds, and improving the gap-bridging capability. In this work, the influences of welding parameters were investigated to combine the positive aspects of laser beam and ...

Narrow gap laser welding by multilayer hot wire addition
Journal of Laser Applications, 2016Welding of thick section butt joints experiences limitations for different techniques. One option is to fill a narrow gap layer by layer with laser melted wire, a laser metal deposition technique where the complexity of a keyhole is avoided. The presented results show that wire addition can enable relatively thick layers.

Research on nonlinear prediction model of weld forming quality during hot-wire laser welding
Optics & Laser Technology, 2020Abstract In order to realize accurate prediction of the weld forming quality during hot-wire laser welding, in this study, a basic multivariate linear regression model regarding multiple process parameters and the weld forming quality is first established. And a residual analysis is then used to analyze the linear regression model. The results of the

Control of wire transfer behaviors in hot wire laser welding
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015Hot wire laser welding reduces the requirement of wire feeding accuracy and improves wire deposition efficiency with preheating wire by resistance heat. Due to merits like low heat input and high deposition rate, this method has broad potential applications like welding and additive manufacturing. It is a key problem to maintain stable wire transfer in

Real-time monitoring of the laser hot-wire welding process
Optics & Laser Technology, 2014Abstract The laser hot-wire welding process was investigated in this work. The dynamics of the molten pool during welding was visualized by using a high-speed charge-coupled device (CCD) camera assisted by a green laser as an illumination source. It was found that the molten pool is formed by the irradiation of the laser beam on the filler wire.

Microstructures in hot wire laser beam welding of HY 80 steel
Materials Science and Technology, 1994AbstractLaser beam welding of 13 mm plates of HY 80 steel resulted in different microstructures in the fusion zone depending on the welding process. Autogenous welds resulted in an untempered martensitic structure, whereas, with the introduction of a hot wire filler metal, the microstructures depended on the wire feed.
