Laser induced ignition

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Nowadays, combustion engines and other combustion processes play an overwhelming and important role in everyday life. As a result, ignition of combustion processes is of great importance, too. Usually, ignition of a combustible material is defined in such a way that an ignition initiates a self-sustained reaction which propagates through the ...

Laser‐initiated ignition

Laser & Photonics Reviews, 2010
AbstractAfter an introduction illustrating the relevance and motivation of laser ignition of engines, the physical background is reviewed in a first technical section. This mainly comprises the mechanisms of plasma formation, which are the generation of first free electrons and their avalanche‐like multiplication, being illustrated by emission and ...

Laser Ignition of Combustion Engines: Development of an Ignition Laser

2007 European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2007
Summary form only given. This work focuses on the development of a compact, robust and reliable Nd:YAG solid-state laser. A diagram for the pulse energy in dependence of the reflectivity of the output mirror and the initial transmission of the absorber, as well as the analysis of inject optics and optimum pump duration is established. The highest pulse

Laser ignition of pyrotechnic mixtures: Ignition mechanisms

Journal of Applied Physics, 1993
A laser method for studying the ignition processes of a pyrotechnic mixture is presented. The experimental equipment consists mainly of a 250 W CO2 laser, an explosive chamber, a power meter, and a mechanical shutter. Using the laser ignition apparatus a parametrical study of the ignitability of a pyrotechnic mixture (Mg/NaNO3) was conducted.
